The problem
Export and render operations in Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Adobe Premiere can take hours. A sleeping Mac means lost progress and starting over.
Why it happens
Video editors are resource-intensive during export but don't always tell macOS to stay awake. If you're not actively moving the mouse during a render, the idle timer runs down.
The fix: Shake It On
Shake It On keeps your Mac awake by moving the mouse slightly at regular intervals. macOS sees real user activity and resets the idle timer. Set it up with the right conditions and it only runs when you're actually video editing.
Recommended conditions for video editing:
- Only Shake If CPU is above 25% (catches renders)
- Paused When on battery
- Allow display to sleep (for long overnight renders)
